(source) - George R. R. Martin's next book is coming. No, not that one. The author talked at 92Y in Manhattan on Sunday about "The World of Ice & Fire," his new book chronicling the history of Westeros. During the talk, Martin revealed that the Westeros portrayed on television's "Game of Thrones" can be gorgeous, but it's not always how he envisioned it would look.
"I wanted accurate versions of these castles. We’ve had a number of different artists draw them on covers and on the fantasy like cards and games, and some of them have been beautiful images but not necessarily accurate to what I described," Martin said of his vision for the world. The author said for this new book, he worked closely with artists to make the images and locations match how he envisioned them in his "mind's eye."
I'll admit, I'm jonesin for some more GOT action. There's sort of a lull right now in terms of really good TV shows. Sure, Walking Dead is on and is sort of a thing you have to watch cus you've been watching it, but we all know what it is by now. We don't have that glued to your seat, hair standing on your arm, leave you sayin "oh shit" TV show right now. So when I saw a story for something Game of Thrones related, I got excited.
But then I fucking read it, and looked at the damn pictures. And I'll be the first to say it: fuck George R.R. Martin. You just can't let people be happy, can you dude? I'm starting to think this guy is just straight up a sociopath. "Wait what? The pictures are pretty fuckin cool..." Yeah, exactly! I know they are! That's my fucking point. Did you really HAVE to show us what Westeros is actually supposed to look like. Did we NEED to see that the iron throne is supposed to be a trillion times more badass, or that Winterfell is supposed to be like 50 times bigger than we thought? Is it necessary for me to know that HBO is never going to be able to live up to your "I make Mordor jealous" version of Dragonstone? Fuck, man.
First it was his writing. Just killing everyone we like and never anyone we don't. Then it was his interviews. Basically telling us it's never going to get better and don't have any hope. And now it's his fucking art. "Oh by the way, Game of Thrones isn't nearly as cool as it's supposed to be." You're such a downer, bro. I don't know what happened in your life to make your heart so dark, but damn whoever made you this way, George. Damn them...
... But seriously get the next season of Game of Thrones on, already. I'm fiendin like crazy for some majorly traumatic moments.
P.S. They crushed the wall, though. I mean, sure it's just a giant ice wall, but props, HBO. Nailed it.
