(source) - CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (AP) — A Georgia man says drug suppression officers mistook his okra plants for marijuana.
Dwayne Perry of Cartersville tells WSB-TV (http://bit.ly/1rJ8LMq ) that he was awakened by a helicopter flying low over his house Wednesday and then some heavily-armed deputies and a K-9 unit showed up at his door. They were from the Governor's Task Force for drug suppression and they were out looking for marijuana plants.
What they had seen, apparently, were Perry's okra plants and a shrub at the end of his house. Perry says the officers ended up apologizing to him. Patrol Capt. Kermit Stokes says the plants did have characteristics similar to marijuana.
Perry says people keep asking him about the officers at his house, and he worries that his reputation has been damaged.
Okay so 3 things:
1. - Hey Georgia Police. Relax there, pal. Even if you were right about this, what are you doing bringing out the chopper and dogs for some weed? I think a simple knock on the door and tell the guy, "yo don't grow pot in your front yard," would probably work. I guess I can respect your stubborn desire to resist change, but come on man, it's pretty much legal and you don't need to be such a dick.
2. - So were the cops just like spying on this dude's house? That's fucked up, right? I mean it didn't really say how they just saw this stuff growing at this dude's place, so they must've just been watching it. It's crazy how many cameras and shit cops have pretty much everywhere. Always weird to think that somebody can pretty much see what you're doing like all the time... So don't grow strange vegetables in front of your home, people. Lesson learned.
3. - Dwayne worrying about his reputation being damaged is the best part of this story. This is a proud, okra-growing citizen who won't accept having his good name dragged through the mud just because you idiots are too incompetent to recognize to the difference between delicious homegrown goodness and dirty drug plants. I have a feeling we haven't seen the end of this story. Expect a strong push from Dwayne Perry to restore his family's proud name to it's former glory.
