I really like this guy, and I think his show is always a funny watch, but I think the really funny thing about Last Week Tonight is that it's essentially just a smart British guy pointing out the stupid things that we do as an American society, all of which we know we do, but for some reason don't really think about on a regular basis. John Oliver is like our friend who's asking why you keep ordering shots when you're already wasted, and we stop and look down at our shot and say, "huh, I dunno"... and then promptly fire it down the hatch.
We don't know why we do such dumb shit as Americans. I mean, you'd think that we'd pay attention to something that we sink billions of billions of dollars in to (the lottery), but we don't. We never stop and think about where our government is allocating the insane amount of funds made available to them through our obsession with the lottery. Instead, we're busy just hoping that this is the month that the magic man's ping pong balls happen to match our bday/social security no./high school football no./age I lost my virginity/number of sexual partners/number of sexual failures/and 42 (just cus).
So thanks John Oliver, I guess. I mean, I'm glad your show exists cus it's funny and it makes us realize that we're doing dumb shit, but it's just sort of embarrassing to realize that it apparently takes a funny British fellow to point out our idiocy.
