So what, I'm on a bit of a cold streak. Whatever, jump ship if you want, but in the words of John Belushi, "was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" No, it wasn't over then and it's not over now. I feel a big turn for my predictions as these playoffs keep going, so let's get to it.
Game 1: New York Rangers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins - Line (Pittsburgh -165)
This is my nightmare. Literally my two least favorite squads going head to head and I have to analyze it. Wait, no I don't cus this is a comedy blog that nobody reads and I don't get paid, so fuck both these teams, I'm just going to pick the Penguins because I'm more angry with the Rangers at the moment, so there you go. Also, they're a better team.
Pick: Pittsburgh -165
Game 2: Minnesota Wild vs. Chicago Blackhawks - Line (Chicago -180)
Okay this better be as easy as it looks. Chicago is CLEARLY the better squad, but the damn Wild took down the more talented Avalanche and really seem to be prepared for tough playoff hockey, so I'm a little nervous to call it. Not to mention, the Blackhawks came in to the playoffs a little beaten up, and while Kane and Toewes have played as if they're 100% healthy, it's still not too hard to imagine that the team chemistry may not yet be back to it's highest level. If the Wild can get tough with the Hawks top lines, then it may be a case where the less talented team forces the better squad to play down to their abilities.
But I'm going to say that it really is an easy call. I mean the way Kane and the rest of that top line looked to close out that Blues series was insanely entertaining to watch, and I think at this point he has pretty much solidified himself as the best player in the NHL come playoff time. The combination of skill, hard nosed play, and results to show for it is truly impressive.
The goaltending should lean in favor of the Blackhawks, even though Crawford has seemed shaky at times, but come on, the Wild may have to start this guy:
If Keumper isn't healthy enough to play in this series and Bryz is expected to shut down the Hawks, then I'm going to go ahead and give them a 0% chance to win this series.
Tonight, expect the Hawks to start strong and break my streak of wrong "the home team should play well this game" predictions.
Pick - Chicago -180
Come on KP, help me make it rain.
