MADDEN NFL FOOTBALL, THE BEST SELLING PRO FOOTBALL FRANCHISE IN THE WORLD and PROVING IT!
(I'll apologize now, I'm venting. This has been a sore subject for me since high school. Madden fans shouldn't keep reading*)
Very soon, the lazy scumbags at EA are going to release the inevitable pile of shit, known as MADDEN 15.
Want to know a secret? Since 2006, The NFL and MADDEN football have been making a shit ton of money doing next to nothing... WHY?.....They know the average American consumer is a dumb, lazy ignorant fool with no backbone.
I too, used to ride the Madden dick. I sat bias, happy as a clam, running around the edge play after play with Michael Vick (2004 Madden).
In Plato's cave, I was loving that damn shadow sock puppet show. I didn't care where it was coming from. I never asked what was outside. I didn't need to. I was content and ignorant as any teenager could be. That was before JULY 2004 and ESPN NFL 2k5 FOOTBALL.
TO THIS DAY THE BEST FOOTBALL GAME EVER MADE and WILL NEVER BE MADE AGAIN BECAUSE?.... EA SPORTS has a lot of money to BUY the NFL and knows AMERICA is TOO STUPID and COWARDLY TO CALL IT ON IT'S BULLSHIT!
All you Madden fans can keep getting served up the same plate of poop because you're too stupid to argue with facts and love "dat flash" and "x-citement" that Madden keeps reinventing.
Before July of 2004, The NFL had zero exclusivity deals on who could use the rights to the NFL. This created a variety in games and competition among game developers.
NFL Blitz, NFL Fever, NFL 2k, Madden... This allowed the most basic rights for a consumer to pick and choose which game suited them.
July 2004, NFL 2K5 is released for $20. Reviews pour in, showering the game with praise.
August 2004, Madden releases. Sales dip. Uh oh!
MADDEN lowers their price to $29 to compete with the aggressive play of 2k sports.
THEN the reviews start pouring in.
This clearly was not what EA had planned for. How could they allow a company to sneak in, undercut their business for half the profits and then also win the review debate? This wasn't very Madden like. It was clear that whoever was responsible had to do something desperate...
Time to go to DEF CON 3. How do you guarantee your game will be the best and secure your profits? You eliminate the competition by any means necessary.
Luckily they were dealing with the NFL and cash is king.
Don't understand what exclusivity is? EA sports paid the NFL ALOT OF MONEY to not allow another company to make a game with the NFL logos, teams, players etc. . They can cover it up as they want the honor of being the best and only but it's basically because a smaller company showed EA they had a better product and EA went nuclear.
This was the day that consumerism was not only murdered, but so clearly disregarded for the sake of greed. BOTTOM LINE.
NFL fans, like myself, had always been drawn to excitement of annual installments to whichever franchise they chose (For me, yes it was Madden, until I was treated to a game that was indeed leaps and bounds ahead of what I was used to).
Regardless of my own opinion on the matter and preference of game, it was very obvious that once the NFL sold it's soul to EA, things would never be as progressive as they were. Why improve your game if you don't have to? This involves constantly overhauling and challenging a company to be better than the next. Now that EA had no competition, who were they going to worry about? Knowing full well that little Johnny is too stupid to care about what an "exclusivity deal" was, they paid the check, got the rights and the rest is history.
Here's a fun list of RATINGS AND "NEW EXCITING FEATURES" from the lazy fucks at EA SPORTS SINCE 2006! (the year after the deal was in place and NO competition)
These are all true and NOT considered DLCs because that just wouldn't make sense.
MADDEN 06 - 8.2/10
"Madden NFL 06 is a highly playable game of football, but in comparison with the leaps forward the franchise has made in previous years, 06 feels like a false start." - hmmmmmm?
- FEATURES - QB vision and Precision passing (light cone, directing towards your receiver, most people turned this feature off.) TRUCK STICK - essentially the "hit stick" on offense..
MADDEN 07 - 6.5/10
"It's hard not to look at the current generation version of Madden as an aging veteran on its last legs, but that veteran still has a bit of game left in it."
FEATURES - the highlight stick, a new kick meter, and lead blocking controls! (are you kidding me?)
MADDEN 08 - 7/10
FEATURES - On field WEAPONS! Icons on screen of marquee players show what they do!
MADDEN 09 - 8/10

MADDEN 2015 ?

Trench warfare! New tackling mechanic!
Feel free to go read the reviews and honestly ask yourself, has any installment actually been better than a game made a fucking decade ago on an outdated system? I'm not arguing for the sake of arguing but my God, who is working at EA? The graphics are still clunky. The running is choppy, the features are outdated and old/recycled. it's mind boggling how bad it's gotten yet they keep hyping it up. We are on NEXT NEXT GEN and still unable to make a game better than something made 10 years ago.
ESPN NFL 2K5 9.2/10
Advertising (recycling) "new features" annually like the HIT STICK or NEW IMPROVED PLAYER AI... or DEFENSIVE RECOGNITION or TACKLING MECHANIC. The veil was pulled immediately over the fan base they already had intact. How do you maximize profits on a brand guaranteed to sell? You minimize production costs. This means, you have a foundation for a game in place. A trusted model. You dress up the improvements by "adding" features that literally have zero impact whatsoever and be sure to publicize the excitement that goes along with hiring a new "COVER ATHLETE"!
Madden could give less of a shit about what you think as long as you buy.
The NFL, has clearly shown they don't care how good their representation/exclusive company performs, because you know what? Most of them DON'T PLAY THE GAME. You think Jerry Jones is up in his castle adjusting the sliders on the defensive AI? Or Robert Kraft is up in Mass. looking at the new create a team features? Roger Goodell cares about one thing, Money in the NFL. Money keeps flowing, they keep winning and we keep drinking the Kool-Aid.
The most basic and fundamental rights as a fan of the NFL and gamingused to be a freedom to choose what entertained you. A basic order of economics and consumerism has been thrown out the window because most of us are too lazy to complain or are still content sitting in the cave being spoon fed the same loads of recycled crap.
As long as EA keeps selling the same product, they will continue the aggressive propaganda giving you hope that this year will be different and the new defensive features/hit stick and roster updates will justify another $60 out of your pocket and an extended exclusivity to keep us in order. It's called DLC you Madden sheep. As long as you bastards keep shelling out $60 , you're going to prevent anything substantial from happening, like competition.
If no one's racing, you can go whatever pace you like.
If you give a shit and would like to see new competition and technology actually doing something new for the NFL and gamers alike, start writing to the NFL.
Here are some addresses, mail them, email them, tweet them
EA is going to keep shelling money to hold onto their golden goose, if enough people start making a stink, who knows what could happen.
